Our beliefs at Mount Zion Baptist Church are based on the sure foundation and truth of the Word of God. This book - the Bible - explains the meaning of life, and gives us a purpose for today and a bright hope for the future. In the Bible we discover the way to real fulfilment and security but we also find solemn warnings. The Bible speaks faithfully about the past, the present and the future - it reveals to the world both bad news and good news...
We have rebelled against God who created us. This rebellion is called sin, which means disobeying God's holy law. The Bible tells us that: "We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God"
Therefore each of us is in need of forgiveness. But God is holy and cannot compromise with sin, and therefore His pure justice demands that a penalty must be paid before we can be made right in our relationship with God.
God knows that we are unable to pay this penalty ourselves and satisfy His holy justice. So out of His great love He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to this world. Christ took upon Himself a human body like our own and was named Jesus, meaning Saviour. He lived a perfect life, completely obeying God's law. At the appointed time Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross at Calvary as the one and only perfect sacrifice. There on the cross He suffered the eternal punishment from God due for the sins of all who believe on Him. So the penalty of their sin was all paid by Jesus Christ. The Bible says: "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" On the third day after His death He rose again victorious over sin and death, and then ascended back to God the Father in Heaven.
If we repent of our sin and trust in Jesus Christ we too can receive forgiveness and enter into a right relationship with God. The Bible promises that "there is now therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus".
Every day those who have put their trust in Jesus Christ - God's way of salvation - prove Him to be faithful and true in every circumstance of life. He says:"I will never leave you or forsake you."
This is the glorious answer from God to this world for the problem of sin. There is complete deliverance and freedom found in Jesus Christ, who ever lives to make intercession for those who put their trust in Him.
If we believe in God, and His way of salvation in Jesus Christ, then an eternal life of peace and happiness in heaven after death is absolutely certain. However, if we reject God and His way of salvation, and die in our unbelief, then our life after death will be one of total separation from Him. Jesus Christ warned of a place of darkness and suffering called hell. The Bible says:"He who believes in Him is not condemned: but he who does not believe is condemned"
One day we will all be called to give an account of ourselves to God. Please consider your own life! Your soul is your most important and precious possession and it continues forever.
