We all know what a door is for. It’s an entrance to a room or to where we live. If we want to enter that room or home then we have to open the door to go in. Jesus Christ said that He is the door. What did He mean by that?
If we want to be saved, that is to be forgiven our sins by God and to enjoy all the wonderful blessings that follow, then Christ alone is the entrance into that state. He alone is the door to salvation. It’s as simple and straightforward as that.
In the same way that you use a door to get into a room, so, to go through the door which is Jesus Christ, you must want to get into the room of salvation. You need to realise that you must enter that room in order to get right with God because of your sins. You need His forgiveness and mercy.
There is a very famous, yet misleading, painting by a man called William Holman Hunt which depicts Christ as standing at a door, symbolising a person’s heart, and knocking to gain entrance. A great painting but it gives the impression of a Christ who is powerless to enter unless the person allows Him to. In reality there is no latch on the inside for the person to undo the door and let Jesus in. The only way is for Christ to undo the door. However if you, as a sinner, call out to Christ, ‘Please come in’, then Jesus will, without a doubt, come into your heart and life, your sins will be forgiven, and you will enter a right relationship with God as you wholeheartedly follow Christ.
Jesus said ‘My sheep hear My voice and know Me. They follow Me.’ Do you belong to Christ’s flock? Through this little message, Christ is speaking to us to ask Him to open the doors of our hearts and come into our lives. Have you asked Jesus to do that? There is no more important question for you and me to be asked today. ‘Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts’.
